2010 Virtual Photowalk - Prosperity

a tradition in Riga is for newlymarried to put an engraved locker on this bridge and throw away the key

a detail from the bridge above since I like the shadows

back in Sweden I walked on Västerbron in Stockholm and found this. I don't know if it's married couples who do that in Stockholm or maybe those who are engaged. A bit puzzled though about the combinationlock.. hard to throw away that key. Is there anything similar in other parts of this world?

I have never seen anything like this! An interesting tradition. Maybe the couple who put the combination lock there are not really sure about their future!

This is definitely an unknown tradition to me and I love it! That first image is just gorgeous, especially if you know the story and love behind it. I also love the close ups of the details, this gives us a sense of what the newlyweds are doing. Nice!

In Paris there it exists same place! but the mayor cut the padlock from time to time to reduce the heaviness on grids, but I like these places full of promise! a very beautiful series!
bye :)

Thanks for sharing this interesting tradition with us. I wonder what other traditions there are around weddings in other parts of the world.

What a lovely tradition~ Yeah, I don't think the combination lock quite has the same meaning. Somebody didn't quite get the symbolism I guess~ Thanks for sharing. The pictures are great~

Interesting tradition. Don't recall seeing anything like it before.

I saw locks at a Buddist temple in China, can't remember where, but again was for newly weds. Maybe the combination lock was by someone who wasn't 100% commited?

Har aldrig sett detta fenomen i Sverige. Dom som satt dit kombinationslåset känner nog inte till traditionen att det är nyckeln man ska slänga iväg. Eller också vill dom ha en "flyktväg"!

What great images and a very cool tradition, I love the shadows in the middle too. Maybe the couple with the combo lock are forgetful...

I have never heard of this before, what a great idea. Maybe it is because no one can pick the combination lock? Love the close up image!

I, too, have never seen anything like this before but I love it!! How romantic and symbolic. The combination lock is a puzzle, though! Thanks so much for sharing this.

This is so unique! I like that you show us the whole bridge and how pretty it is with all the locks. I agree that the shadows are interesting, plus I like the close up since we can see that these are engraved locks. And I like that you caught the oddity of the combination lock.

This is such a great tradition. Thanks for sharing it with us. I like the wide view on top and then the detail shots below.

Very interesting tradition...never saw anything like it before. You have captured the whole story and pointed out an oddity with the combo lock!
